Variability And Character Association In Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)

Tigray region is characterized by an erratic rainfall where heavy rain swap with dry periods resulting in alternating floods and dry periods. Therefore, barley materials developed for arid and semi-arid areas were introduced from ICARDA. The over all objective of this study was to estimate the extent of genetic variability, association among characters and to estimate genetic divergence among the genotypes and to cluster them in divergent groups. Sixty four barley genotypes were tested in 8×8 simple lattice design at Atsbi, Ofla and Quiha environments in Tigray region, in 2009/10 cropping season. Analysis of variance revealed that there was a significant difference among the genotypes for the traits Days to heading, Days to maturity, Spike length, Number of Productive tillers /m2, Number of Kernels per spike, Biological yield, Grain yield, Harvest index, Germination Test and 1000-kernel weight in all locations except plant height was non-significant at Atsbi and Ofla.

В настоящей книге излагаются наиболее употребительные математические модели, описывающие термомеханическую реакцию твердых тел при их температурном нагреве, тепловом нагреве, нагреве средой, а также действии внутренних источников тепла. Даются аналитические решения конкретных модельных задач термоупругости в статической, квазистатической и динамической постановках (в основном несвязанных) в рамках классической феноменологии Фурье о бесконечной скорости распространения теплоты, с учетом конечной скорости ее распространения, в средах с тепловой памятью. Рассматриваются новые задачи термоупругости, относящиеся к области с движущимися во времени границами. Наряду с этим приводятся общие закономерности прикладной термоупругости, включая выводы определяющих уравнений с использованием основных соотношений термодинамики необратимых процессов. Книга адресована инженерам, научным сотрудникам, преподавателям, а также специалистам в области приложений теории прикладной термоупругости в различных направлениях науки и техники. Она может представлять интерес для широкого круга математиков-прикладников, механиков, физиков, теплофизиков, работающих в области механики сплошной среды.

Demogenetic Aspects of the Aimol Tribe of Manipur

The present work was carried out among the Aimol tribe of Manipur. They are one of the small tribal groups of Manipur. Till date no work based on molecular DNA work has been conducted among them. With this major goal the two complementary aspects of Anthropology i.e. demography and genetics were explored among the Aimol tribe of Manipur. The demographic data were collected from 310 ever married Aimol women from 3 districts of Manipur. Intravenous blood samples were collected from 52 unrelated individuals of both sexes with prior informed written consents. Each DNA samples were screened for autosomal, mtDNA and MTHFR polymephic sites. The present study provides evidence that Aimol tribe is a growing population. The fertility component is higher than the mortality component. The analysis of the autosomal and mtDNA haplogroups distribution infer that Aimol might have migrated to Manipur from East Asia through Myanmar which is in agreement with their mythological belief that they were migrated from Mongolia and China. This work will be helpful in a small measure for the policy makers, demographers and other medical and health research for further investigation.

Groundwater recharge modelling in the Eden river basin, UK

Understanding the distribution and hydrogeological behaviour of superficial deposits is critical in developing surface water and groundwater catchment management strategies. In this study the hydrogeological behaviour of the superficial deposits in the Eden Catchment, NW England, was characterized on the basis of the geology and thickness of the deposits. Ten hydrogeological domains, consisting of superficial deposits with common lithology, thickness and depositional environments, were defined for the Eden Catchment. The domains classification was used to develop a simple conceptual model of runoff generation in the catchment. The domains were grouped into three zones with different runoff potential, which was inferred from the permeability of the domains con- stituent lithologies. The runoff zones were integrated with data on land use, slope aspect and gradient, rainfall and potential evapotranspiration into the British Geological Survey Distributed Recharge model ZOODRM.

Wetland Ecosystems: Water and Energy Exchange

Exchange of water, heat and other energy components between wetlands and the lower portion of the atmosphere is essential for functioning and development of these ecosystems, and for the decisions related to conservation or modification of wetlands. Transformation of the energy components by key parts of the ecosystem, such as water body and vegetated canopy, and complex exchange between the latter are often described in terms of energy fluxes. In this book, the diurnal and seasonal exchange of water, energy and heat storage is quantified, and compared across three wetland communities: reedgrass, bulrush, and open water. Total water loss is partitioned into surface evaporation and plant canopy transpiration, and examined in terms of main controlling variables. Actual, potential and equilibrium evapotranspiration rates are also examined in the framework of Penman-Monteith and McNaughton-Spriggs models, leading to an improvement in understanding the mechanisms of the water loss in wetlands. This study could be useful for professionals in Natural and Ecosystem Sciences, Hydrology, and in Natural Resources and Water Management.

Capacity Enhancement and Interference Mitigation in Multiuser UWB

In this book, we have considered multiuser communication scenario with Ultra Wideband (UWB) communication. Different issues under multiuser communication are considered with focus on capacity issue. In literature two widely discussed techniques for multiple access for UWB are based on Time Hopping (TH) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). In our investigations we have considered both these techniques for UWB system and addressed different issues. TH based technique has been available for long in literature for UWB communication, while new standard for UWB is based on OFDM. We have considered downlink communication with UWB. Under this scenario we have considered the case wherein UWB device collects the data from different multimedia sources and transmits the combined data over link. We have proposed scheme based on DS-CDMA based OFDM. For this scheme we have proposed two system models named system model-I and system model-II. Model-I is considered without MUI and in Model-II we have considered the effect of MUI. we have evaluated the performance under AWGN channel, multipath Rayleigh channel and SV channel.
