Impact of Globalisation on the Indian Industries

At the time of Independence, the pharmaceutical industry in India was dominated by MNC’s with almost no role for the Indian companies. Indian companies however, started to grow since 1970 with the implementation of IPA 1970, DPCO, FERA 1973 and import tariff and came to dominating the industry in 1990. In 1991, the implementation of globalisation policy brought about reversal of the situation for the Indian companies and favorable to the MNC’s. Nevertheless, the Indian pharmaceutical companies showed significant improvement in formulation production, formulation consumption and total consumption, decrease in the formulation imports, decrease in the bulk drugs production, increase in bulk drugs imports and also increase in the foreign exchange earnings. The performance of the Indian pharmaceutical industry as measured through various parameters, has shown that there had been increase in the production, consumption, exports and foreign exchange earnings and decreased in the imports as a result of globalisation. The exports and imports of pharmaceuticals have shown that India is moving towards “only exporting country” with reference to pharmaceuticals.

Learning Styles and Personality Types of Engineering Students

Students possess different learning styles and personality types that are reflected in different academic strengths, weaknesses, skills and interests. Due to unlimited variety of job descriptions within engineering, it is safe to say that students with every possible learning style and personality type have potential to succeed as engineers. They may not be equally likely to succeed in engineering institutions, however, since they respond differently to different instructional approaches and the predominant mode of instruction favours some learning styles over others. Understanding learning style differences is thus an important step in designing balanced instructions that is effective almost for all students. When teachers are aware of students differences they can adopt methods that address the needs and concerned of all students, regardless of preferences, through curriculum orientation and classroom activities. By knowing more about students’ learning styles and personality types, we can come to a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. This may be useful in designing balance instructional materials, processes and strategies for better academic achievement.

Risk Management in The Zimbabwean Short-Term Insurance Industry

Chapter 1 sets out the background to enterprise- wide risk management (EWRM). Chapter 2 examines literature on EWRM and Chapter 3 assesses key theoretical approaches to EWRM. Chapter 4 sets out the research design while Chapter 5 presents and discusses the results of an empirical investigation which explores the views of 16 Chief Executive Officers drawn from 16 Zimbabwean short- term insurance companies. Research evidence shows that whilst risk awareness seems good in most Zimbabwean short-term insurance companies, a significantly lower number take adequate measures to reduce risks to their lowest practical levels. It might be suggested that the Zimbabwean short-term insurance industry has limited capabilities to consistently identify, measure and manage risk exposures across the company and thereby limit exposures. Execution of EWRM is sporadic and losses have not been limited in accordance with predetermined risk tolerance guidelines. Therefore, the Zimbabwean short-term insurance industry might be viewed as having weak EWRM. Therefore this research provides a wide range of recommendations to address the identified weaknesses.
